Business Intelligence Engineer , Transportation Network Design Insights

Description

Amazon ships millions of packages every day, from hundreds of origins to hundreds of destinations. In this role, your goal is to extract the most important insights out of those package flows and extract the most important findings to our most senior leaders.

You will answer questions like "Where do we spend too much?", or "Where are we too slow?", or "Where do we have inefficient, carbon-intensive routes?".

Your goal is to be a force-multiplier for your internal customers, and help business leaders drive decisions and projects forward on a global scale, from inception to implementation.

Here's why you will love working with us:
- You'll get a view behind the scenes of the world's most impressive transportation network
- You will take ownership of real problems with big impact (we measure impact in the 10s of million $), driving them from conception to completion
- You'll learn and grow rapidly, developing skills that will propel your career forward
- You'll collaborate with a team of innovative thinkers and experts in their field, always pushing boundaries
- You'll use technology and advanced analytics to solve complex, real-world problems
- You'll contribute directly to a mission that affects millions of customers worldwide
- You'll be able to explore new areas when the upside is large enough (we define our own destiny)
- Amazon's data will be your playground

Key job responsibilities
As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will:
- Work directly with senior leaders to provide the data and insights for their biggest problems
- Dive Deep into these problems, auditing the systems we use and finding the right data in datasets with billions of entries
- Define and build new metrics that accurately describe the performance of our network, isolating the impact of different factors contributing to the performance
- Continuously streamline and automate reporting and analytical processes for others to self-serve
- Build scalable solutions that can be re-used to drive fast, repeatable decisions
- Use Python, SQL and AWS Services to create, automate, visualize and optimize solutions
- Work jointly with your teammates and key business partners, communicating your results to senior leaders in the company and influencing the goals they set
- Refine the technical standards for the rest of the team, bringing structure and standardization to elevate everyone's impact

A day in the life
No 2 days are the same, but you'd probably do a mix of the following things
- Meeting with a business stakeholder to understand the problem to solve
- Deep-dive a few examples of the problem, going deep into Amazon systems and data
- Build a prototype of a solution for the problem
- Measure the impact of the solution after implementing
- Scaling and automation the prototype to a repeatable tool
- Present your findings to business and tech leadership
